About Me

Who are you?Khawkins_3

My name is Kevin Hawkins, and I am the Technical Director of Software Engineering at Raydon Corporation, a simulation training company, as well as one of four Co-owners of GameDev.net, the leading online resource for game development. I’ve co-authored two books for Cengage Learning, OpenGL Game Programming and Beginning OpenGL Game Programming and was a contributing author to Game Programming: Tricks of the Trade. Some other random facts: I have a BS in Computer Science and a MS in Software Engineering, used to play the game of baseball through college (drafted by the Cleveland Indians), and live in Florida with my dog and girlfriend.

Code.Implant

Code.Implant is an outlet to document my experiences, thoughts, and ideas in software development with the idea that posting to the blog might expand my knowledge and allow me to connect with others that have the same passions in the software industry that I do. My hope is that other people will find these posts interesting as well, especially since one of my favorite aspects of blogging is the two-way, three-way, any-way conversation with others of similar interests. So to that end, I welcome and encourage email and comments that stay fairly on topic.

As for the meaning behind the name, it’s just a phrase I made up when trying to come up with a name for the blog. There is some contextual meaning though: “Code” as a symbol of software. “Implant” meaning to immerse. So, “Code.Implant” is immersing oneself in software.
